hi there this is my first post and im not extremely technically minded so i need help plz, firstly i read a review in a pc games magazine about the conroe cpu, and am very up for upgrading my full system not that the system i have isnt good its jus not as future proof as i thought and with games like ut2007 coming soon i want a pc that could look run and feel nice. At the moment i have a AMD athlon 64 3800+ not overclocked, a asrock AM2 motherboard, 2 gig of ddr2 533mhz corsair RAM, a xfx 6800gt runnin 400/1000, and a 450w psu which came with my case, now dont get me wrong all the games i have (ut2004, HL2, CS:S, BF2, BF2142, NFS MW, NFS carbon, COD2, and conflict global terror) play exclelently but im thinking of the future and i think a pci-e gfx card and a conroe chip would do the trick until there is another nice n cheap way to max out ** pc lol. Anyways ive chosen a few things that would fit in the budget i have but am having a problem with the gfx choice im leaning towards the msi 7900 gto for 180 squid but theres also the GeCube ATI Radeon X1950 Pro for only a tenner more which would you suggest plz, oh ill list the parts im gunna buy for this system and if you have any better options for less or equal money then im all ears.
thanks for the help

To be perfectly honest i'd stick with what you have till the new year. If your PC is doing everything you want then theres no point in upgrading it just due to a better part coming out. In january you'll have the advantage of all the major updates to PC tech being announced, if not released (quad core, AMD 4x4, R600). As well as that, you'll actually have something to utilise the new hardware in the form of direct X 10 (althought not many games until early spring). At the moment i highly doubt you'd see £700 worth of an increase by upgrading to conroe.

well the thing is i have the oppertunity to sell my system for 600 squid and by the january it may be a whole different story as christmas will have past but i guess i *** jus save my money till then and then add more money when the time cums, definitly food for thought, thank you very much :D
