The best multiplayer FPS coming to 360 in XBLA form

Quake Arena...As in quake 3 arena!?! if thats the case then thats AWESOME!! :D

Would be gimped as that game was designed ground up for mouse and keyboard.

Can you imagine the level of play you wee used to online on PC with a console controller? The railgun will be no where near as good without a mouse.

The only alternative will be to dumb down the controls and have some sort of aim assistance.

I am all for original FPS games on 360 designed from the ground up, but games that have become great on PC with a high level of competition online, just won't work well with a joypad.

Doom worked because it had a simple control system even on the PC, Quake 3 Arene will not be as fast or competitive with a joypad I reckon.

I played Quake III with a Dreamcast controller fine so I can't see why the 360 would struggle.

Playing online with a controller will be frustrating as hell.
Why? Even though it was shockingly laggy at times I played Quake III on Dreamcast online and it was pretty decent, Dreamcast only had 1 analog stick aswell.

Of course it wont be as quick or accurate compared to a PC kb/mouse setup, but if everyone is using a 360 pad on a level playing field then I dont mind.

Id definately give it a look, the dreamcast version was surprisingly good. Didnt feel to handicapped by the controls and it ran shockingly well for me on the DCs 33.6 modem.

Very much agreed mate

I also had the dreamcast version and it kicked ***.
Even with the pad it wasn't hard to keep pace with the kb/mouse people and if everyone is using a pad anyway wth does it matter.

It's not the controls that will be the issue, it was that quake was made by the mods.
Still worth the money compared to some of the other stuff around.

Quake 3 was a a very fast paced game online on the PC (similarly something like UT).

Never played the DC version but I cannot see how it can be as fast paced, with a slow joypad control.

I can understand games that were designed ground up for a console like Halo or Goldeneye etc as there control systems work well. But I don't think they are as fast paced and accurate as a game like Quake 3 or UT on the PC.

Just my opinion.

From what I remember it wasn't as fast paced as the pc version rp2000, but it still retains the feel of q3. Playing that over live whilst sat on the couch sounds great to me. :)

There was a version (standard Q3, iirc) on PS2 as well, very, insanely, fast. :)
Just got both on Steam, with this as well Q3 is coming back! It's been too long. :p
