I keep reading there is little point to getting AIO cpu coolers with such good Air coolers...

So keeping my options open - I want to overclock 3900x, 9900k, or other high end cpu

CPU Currently is 6700k over clocked, and I need clearance for memory which is currently

G.SKILL TridentZ Series F4-2800C14D-32GTZ 32GB DDR4 2800 MHz C 14 1.35 V Memory Kit

What would be recommended? I'd also like it quiet.

Lian Li PC-O11 case has 155mm CPU clearance. It designed more for water cooling than air, so if you don't already have it there are better choices for less money. Phanteks and Fractal Design make nice cases.
Trident Z is 44mm tall so stands 47mm above motherboard. That means there isn't enough room between RAM and case side for even a 120mm fan so whatever cooler you get needs to be offset back from RAM.

What motherboard do you have? Once I know I can tell you the center CPU to x16 PCIe socket distance.

I bought the Phantek 600S - sorry I didn't update this thread sooner!

P600S is a good case. I suggest using all 3 included fans as front intakes and remove all PCIe back slot cover (even if vented) to improve exhaust vent area and airflow out of case and thus improving front to back airflow lowering both CPU and GPU temps thus lowering fan speeds and resulting noise.

thanks for the advice!

I noticed when I took this photo the fans were the wrong way round, I misunderstood the triangular direction notches. But saw that it didn't match the installed case fans.

The outer fan just sits a little higher as it rests atop the ram. Vengence LPX which hasn't got a very large heatsink anyway

So you've presently got your CPU cooler running rear to front airflow in that pic. Whereas your rear case fan is exhausting air from inside to out, so front to rear.

They're mismatched - is that the before or after photo?

Derp, understood your phrasing now.

indeed, fixed it after I took the photo - :)

What Drakulton and b00merang69 said.

Keep in mind while NH-D15S or D15 are good but are 10mm too tall for yourPC-011 case and also cost more than most others with similar performance.

As EsaT said, Mugen 5 or Fuma will fit. Both are quite good.

i got the phantek p600s and it's all built already
