For me the best thing about this generation of consoles is (in regards to the ps3 and 360) downloadable demos.

If it wasnt for downloadable demos I would never have bought
Gears of war
Crackdown
Smackdown vs Raw 2007
and ninga gaiden sigma.

What is eveyones best features of this gen .........................

christmas 2007. Just look at the games coming out!

Although I can honestly say I really like the 360 controller and its probably the best in my opinion.

Novel changes to the way we play games thanks to Nintendo.

he other 2 platforms still seem to be trying to catch up with PCs but failing. Don't see anything that impressive. Online play, high res, downloadable content and demos- been done by PC gamers for the last 10 years.

Seamless online play.
No messing, no configuring some naff 3rd party bit of voice software which half the people on your team do not have anyway so defeats the point, you can see instantly what all your mates are playing, stick in the disk and join them all inside about 60 seconds of switching on.
Xbox Live on the 360 is the be all and end all of this gen as far as I am concerned. Keep your higher resolution graphics, your fancy new video formats, your needless thousand different combinations of cables to connect to a telly, your gimimicky controller wand.
Give me online play with no faff. It adds so much replay value to a game beyond any downloadable content or difficulty settings

And usually associated with configuring firewalls, jumping between different online clients, and not using the same voice software. That is before you get on to the "live and die" by your ping/mouse/graphics card. Its just not the same IMO.

The WORST thing about this generation is the dissapointed when you play a new game that is supposed to be 'next gen' and it blatantly isn't.

The BEST thing is as the OP in my opinion, the seemless integration of online use on a console, something I never imagined when I used to play on my PS1 etc.

You guys do know that a lot of us has xbox live last gen? ;)

Yes, but hardly the same affair is it?
That was very similar to a PC based affair, now you have the whole integration of messaging, presence information and achievements etc.

For me that's the worst thing. It's just a marketing gimick to make you buy loads of games to try and prove you are 'the best' at obtaining the 'achievements'.

It's quite clever really.

It's actually made me attempt to complete games that I would have otherwise got rid off. Crackdown is one example, without the achievments I would never have spent an afternoon looking for 1 orb that was hidden away.

I was just going by your earlier post. There was no mention of messaging or achievements.

I think it makes you get more out of a game rather than trading it in like most people do and i don't think its a gimick, but i do agree it is a clever implementation.

Having a big GS means nothing to me,but i do like to check how good someone is at a game or how much they have played it.

achievements don't really interest me, usually they are quite uninteresting and reward a total slog like 20 million miles raced online or something else thats a total waste of time.

and people buying games like king kong just to get an easy 1000 points defeat the object - all you get is some number for childish bragging rights.
