i've just got a second hand thermalright WXB-01 and took it apart and it is very dirtyand i would like to know the best way to clean up the copper and remove all the gunck out off the pin matrix ? would a tooth brush be to much and bend the pins ?

All depending on how dirty the block is (do you have pictures)

I use a toothbrush on my water blocks to clean all the pins.
I wash it in hot soapy water and give it a good clean.
Others put it in white vinegar, for a short period of time to get rid of any discoloration.
You can also use tomato sauce on the block (vinegar in the sauce)
If you do use vinegar, then don't let it sit in vinegar for a long time as it tarnishes.

okay cheers i was just a litltle un sure and i've just packed it away now ill take it apart again later and post some pics

Remove the O ring
Clean with hot soapy water & tooth brush
If you want the copper to shine, lots of tomato ketchup (Heinz, Daddies, Tescos own etc)
Spread it on & leave for a few hours
Wash with fresh water & dry
