Hi,

I'm about to turn on my first build in it's most basic form: Motherboard, RAM, CPU, Cooler and SSD, all sat on the motherboard box to start with.

I've not done this before and am struggling to find a good guide as to what to do.

I assume I press power to get it to post, if I reach this stage then that's good. From here I install Windows, then what? Motherboard drivers? I assume the USB ports will work without drivers installed so I can install the drivers off a USB stick having already downloaded them off the web.

Is it as simple as that or am I going to have to go into the BIOS to tweak anything?

Getting very excited :D

Once your happy you get the boot screen and a boot failure, you will need to probably setup the ram speed in the BIOS and set the boot option to dvd if your installing Windows from a optical disc.

Most USB port will work from the onset, once Windows is installed just go about installing the drivers, I tend to install the gpu then the motherboard and system.

Thanks RJC. I assume a boot failure is the computer saying nothing in installed and doesn't continue any further?

No DVD drive for the new build, USB only, so I'll download drivers on my laptop and transfer them over.

Correct :)

Once you setup a bootable USB stick pop into the BIOS (I tend to plug these into a USB 2 port) and you should be able to change the boot order and make the usb stick the first device.

But make sure you have no other drive installed.
