So now the dust has settled, is it worth getting a 1080 over a 980Ti?

I will be going from a MSI 980ti Gaming 6G to a something like a Gigabyte 1080 G1.

I'll be getting some precious time over the next few weeks and near Christmas to get some gaming in, so not sure if I should just wait for the 1080ti, which presume will be release around March 2017?

it's up to you to see what gameplay value those 20% extra performance would bring you, if you have situations when 20% makes a difference for you, or will it just be 10-20more fps you wouldn't even notice.
beside there are rumours about Titan coming out in august, so you might at least wait a bit see if there is any truth to that, because that would be worth the upgrade.

Yeah wait and see what Nvidia brings with the Titan P/ 1080Ti
Keep the 980Ti for the time being.
Do you need the extra grunt of the 1080?

The question is what resolution and monitor refresh rate are you at. Those factors will give a big indication to if the 20-30% bump (over a stock 980Ti) is really worth it.

Im waiting for 1080Ti also (Based on how good previous Ti models are). I think it's the best card of any given series to have. Seems to have the biggest jump in performance and longest lifespan.

However I am seriously concerned as to how much it is going to cost. Hopefully Vega can compete and drive down prices.

Depends on the monitor you've got.

I'm on a x34 and the 980ti is still working great and the small increase the 1080 gives doesn't warrant the £600 price tag for me.

If it was me I would just wait for ti.

I went from 970 to 1070 and will probably continue like this until I get bored of gaming.

If I had a ti I would wait for the ti but I suppose I would be worried that it might be too rich for my blood.

I've just got rid of SLI 970s and intended to buy a 1080. Cancelled my EVGA 1080 FTW pre-order yesterday (which is ironic as I ordered it over a month ago and it probably would have shipped from a rainforest tomorrow as I was at the front of the queue!), and I've bought a second hand EVGA SC+ 980Ti.

Total cost of change = £20.

Now I've got a card which will be perfect for VR for a while (Rift) and will run great on my system, which for 2D gaming is 3440 x 1440 gsync (Predator X34).

1080Ti for me...
