The big VRAM vs clock speed question

With all the brouhaha surrounding VRAM recently, I was wondering if there was a definitive list of graphics options, and whether they are core/memory speed dependent, or VRAM amount dependent?

I know textures are VRAM, and I've seen people state that AA is as well, but I just want to understand which settings/effects are the ones that need to be limited if you are running 1440p+ with 4GB or less.

Good question, I'd be interested in this.
 
Max Payne 3 tells you the effect, in real-time, on Video RAM as you change graphics settings.

As GTA V uses the same engine I presume it will do a similar thing when released next month

Have a fiddle around with Max Payne 3 though, if you have it...

Image quality, texture quality and AA are pretty much the key options I would have thought?

COH2 for example has all the above, yet reducing image quality has a bigger effect on vram usage than texture quality for some reason.

Image quality in the Nvidia control panel, right?
 
Everything will use up VRAM. The question is, which is the biggest hog.
Also, the more VRAM required, the more general grunt required of the GPU.
