Standard fair for a race tuned engine!
I was in the market for an Aprilia RS 250/Suzuki RGV 250 way back in '99. I ended up buying a new CBR600, what twisted my arm (bearing in mind I was a 2 stroke guy to the core) the service intervals required a top end strip every 4000 miles. Decoke basically, checking the nickel plated bores for wear, cleaning the powervalves, checking the stupidly thin piston rings hadn't broken, etc.
The RGV engine (which the Aprilia used also) was already in a high state of tune and was seen as preventative maintenance. Although the manufacturers weren't specifying this, it was the dealers.
