Is it legal to just let someone else drive your speedboat ? Do they not need a license ?

Nope. There is no driving license for boats such as this.

The vessel needs a sea-worthiness certificate or something like that.

That is what has been reported, and that is the version of events that was presented/accepted at the trial in his absence.

He wouldn't be the first to pretend a passenger was driving. I wondered if there was an independent witness that saw her driving.

He wouldn't be the first, but why is it relevant at this point? He's been convicted on the basis that she was driving the boat.

It's been refreshing to read this thread. I thought I was alone in thinking it's simply a family seeking someone to blame for the tragic loss of their daughter. Rather than accepting it was her fault.

He shouldn't have fled though.
