Dear All

Can someone give me an idea for the cheapest "home-internet browsing" PC in Mini ITX Case using parts from overclockers stock?
The PC needs to work on windows xp or win7 just for internet browsing and watching movies, max 2GB RAM.
I’m looking to make is by myself, not interested in barebones PC.

PS. I’m not looking for “old” motherboards, processors, etc. – I would like to make it from current overclockers stock items.

Thank you for your ideas in advance.

Regards
Lucas

personally I wouldn't use FM2 in that case, it would get very hot. For what you need you may as well use Celeron.

The FM1 is VERY old hat now. A little extra will go a long way to improving on that.

I'd go with this instead:
Intel Pentium G640 2.80GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail
MSI H61I-E35 Intel H61 (Socket 1155) DDR3 ITX Motherboard
Sub Total : £85.82

I have been looking the cheapest possible setup from current overclockers stock, and I think this is that one.
If someone finds something cheaper - please share.

OK, well, you can't say we didn't advise you go for faster. The E350 was one of, if not the, the first platform that claimed to do be able to handle HD playback smoothly but it didn't take long to find the following quote online
E350 is not a good choice. It chokes on 1080i.

I'd go something like this.

E350 isn't great for a windows PC, I have a E350 based laptop and it's slow even internet browsing.

Pentium will be storming though a s1155 celeron G530 or better make a great web pc for half the price except the OC have stopped shipping them.

Note the motherboard doesn't have a PCI-E slot, PCI only , not that it's any use in the case listed. CPU will run very cool but you may need a low profile cooler if you install a DVD

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Pentium G640 2.80GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £52.99
1 x In-Win BM639 Mini ITX Case with 160W PSU - Black £49.99
1 x Kingston 60GB SSDNow V300 Drive SATA 6Gb/s 3 2.5" (7mm height) Solid State Hard Drive - (SV300S37A/60G) £46.99
1 x Gigabyte H61N-D2V Intel H61 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Mini ITX Motherboard £44.99
1 x TeamGroup Elite 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (TED34GM1600HC11DC01) £31.99

If you want a regular mini-ITX case instead of the tiniest ones, the APUs are the best bet for performance/low price.

For not much more you can go Haswell. Whilst you could run Windows 7 or 8 with only 2GB of memory if you open to many windows you could start paging excessively, and that can bring the most powerful system grinding to a halt.
