yes, to the internet and all that...

I'm a member at a Bannatynes Gym, My brother has just had a change in career and has had to leave his local gym and wanted to join mine to take advantage of the joint membership discount.

I told him this was fine and that I'd go down to the gym with him when I had a free moment to sign him up.

So the other day he calls me and tells me he went on his own and managed to sign up. This involves changing my direct debit from £55 to £99 and adding another person onto my membership. Now the thing is they didn't call me or anything!

So on the first of next month I'll be getting £99 taken out of my account and they have not said a word! If my brother hadn't have told me, then I would be none the wiser.

How should I play this one? I think I might call my bank, check the DD is coming out and then call the gym and play hell...

Surly what they have done is completely illegal?

My brother was a bit miffed when they just took him through the procedure on the basis that he said he was my brother!

Slightly off topic, but a woman I work with goes to Bannatynes gym at Chester', has been since it opened. She literally paid her years membership fees on Monday and after asking for a bit of discount she gets it for £37 each on a joint membership :) May be worth trying to haggle with them.

Yeah I would go in and telling them you are contacting trading standards or what not, or hint hint nudge nudge if you wantto give me a discount I'll be happy not to. Then do it anyway.

Surely an amended credit agreement had to be signed?

Well that's what I thought...

...So I can join the gym by pointing to the guy who just walked in in front of me, say he's my brother and they'll charge him? Awesome!

Pretty much - joint membership doesn't have to be someone in your family, I was going to join onto a mates policy before I started my own.

By the sounds of it, All Dan had to do was put my name on the bottom of one of the forms he filled in and signed.

So they did what you wanted them to do and because they trusted your sibling you are annoyed. Yes a bit slack on their part, but do you care enough to make a fuss?
