I can't wait to watch it but...
the kids are watching a DVd which don't finish till 15past 6. Anyone know if there's a Sky One +1 or is there something like LOST when it started, where it starts every 15mins of the hour when you press the red button?

Otherwise, is there a repeat? I'll be away from Tuesday morning till the following Monday morning... :/

Just from the adverts ive seen on tv i think i'd instantly hate the series, ive always pictured Rincewind as a much older helpless kind of character, i guess thats the problem with any film to screen adaptation, some people always feel its been done badly.

Its on multistart, just about to start now if you wanna try kick the kids out!

So multi-start is an option for Sky One?
It's the red button right?

From the trailers and the making of, I David Jason actually kinda capture how I've always thought Rincewind would be, kinda like a Delboy Trotter with a total coward attitude when situation arise. An anti-hero kind of hero :)

Yes, and yes, I am watching it now, and it has the little icon in the top right hand corner which says multistart, so you just press the red button when your ready to watch it.

david jason is to old for rincewind as far as I'm concerned...he's an grumpy old man sure..but I always pictured him middle aged..like jeremy clarksons age...bad tempered and bone idle..not old and with a funny voice

rincewind for me has the personality and voice of somebody like Will Self...its as if the world and everything in it is rubbish and trying its best just to **** you off

Bill Nighy would have played him well

No swearing

Saw an ad for it in the Independent. My first thought: I won't be watching it.

They've cast David Jason as Rincewind - but Rincewind is a young man, while David Jason is at least 115 or something these days.

They've cast Sean Astin as Twoflower - but Twoflower is an oriental guy (the stereotypical "Japanese tourist" type), while Sean Astin... isn't.

Additionally, The Colour of Magic was one of the earliest books - and it shows. Patchy, inconsistent, and not particularly funny. Very bad choice.

Just watched and finished the first part, not too bad - not as good as Hogfather but stuck quite close to the book. I like the cameo Terry played as one of the Astrologist(Zoologist) theorist at the start :)

Yea, got to agree on the Two Flower played by Sean, would have been funnier if it was cast by someone more "lived in the well" type...

I always thought of rincewind as in his late thirties or maybe forties... In fact I suppose I see him as eric idle basically, presumably due to the game. And as above, twoflower's oriental! I still plan to watch this though, shame I'm out tonight :(

Whenever I think of RinceWind:

Well if you take anything from the books, Rincewind is scrawny, with a penchant for running.
He runs from everything.
What he isnt, is a dumpy old man.

i thought it was really good. ive not read the books as i just couldnt get into them and the hogfather bored the hell out of me, so i was pleasantly supprised :)

it followed the basic storyline
but there were massive gaping holes, and some missing important characters, as well as some "interpretation" that i was very unimpressed with, twoflower being able to speak morporkian for one

Just about to watch the 2nd part, but was thoroughly unimpressed with the first

Haven't read any of Pratchett's books but thought the two episodes were really good. Left me craving for more discworld now though. Anyone know if there will be any more of these? Thought I heard in "the making of" program that they would be doing the first two books so will there be more to come?

I've not watched it yet (sky+'d) but the first part was the first book The Colour of Magic and todays part was the second book The Light Fantastic.

The next adaptation will be Going Postal.
