The ContiSport Contact3 thread

Why wouldn't you ever buy used tyres?

Why would I? I simply dont trust them because I cannot rationalise with myself why they exist.

I am happy with used tyres on a set of used alloys, on a used car, on a hire car, etc because I know exactly why they are there.

But used tyres? No thanks, why are people getting rid of perfectly decent, safe, legal tyres with plenty of life left? If they were not good enough for the previous owner I cannot really see why they would be good enough for me.

I'm sure in a minority of cases there is a logical and sensible reason why a tyre might be offered for sale used, but I'm happy to miss these to dodge the majority of cases where the source is suspect or unclear.

If I found myself in a situation where I was having to resort to used tyres then it is clear I am over stretching myself with the car I have, and would therefore look to sell it and buy something cheaper to run.

Tyres are the only thing between your car and the road.

They look identical to me with the same tread pattern as the new CS3s in the Evo review.

Not to me - the font is much larger on your sidewall. I noticed earlier my fronts are the same - larger font and larger tyre size. My fronts are 0110 and my rears are 0210. I wonder if 0210 is the changeover period?

I don't think theres been any change to the Sport contact 3s. At least nothing thats been announced within the company and they are normally pretty good with mailshots about updates and stuff. The sport conatct 5 is what they have been talking about lately as the new UHP tyre. MO is Mecredes Option on the sidewall, BMW tyres have a star to signify BMW approved (as in OE).

So are Evo Magazine simply confused? I wouldnt put it past them.

How come some SportContact 3's have a large font for the 'ContiSport Contact 3' text and the tyre size, yet some have a small font?

I was talking about the two tyres in my photos being the same, I can't really see the tyre size in your photo to compare can you post a photo up ?

It could be down to the profile size of the tyre are all yours 35 or the fronts 40 ?

Fronts are 40's..

I must admit it raised an eyebrow (and a wry smile) seeing a specific tyre thread.

Wonder if there'd be the same excitement over changes in Falken FK452's :p

Anyway, hope they are good tyres and last well. Good price too.

Oh and questioning new tyre squirm? Please.

Interesting, the plot thickens - there goes the idea the smaller font is only on the smaller profile tyres out the window then.

I wonder if the smaller font = newer design?

Although I have two front tyres which are 0110 but large font..

might ditch my falkens for the ST next as these look like they have awesome rim protection, where as the Mrs keeps curbing it and my wheels look gash now, refurb and some new tyres coming up in a few 1000 miles

They really don't.

Mine were small font.

I can see why you went for CS3s now, I would have too at that price. (To think, I paid £300 for a set of 452s, and would have paid over £400 for Ultrac Sessantas if they were in stock).

I always intended on putting CS3s back on the ST, as I did like them on the VXR, but thinking back to getting a bulge in a tyre and it costing nearly £200 to replace it in a hurry locally really put me off, not to mention the wear - if he have a hot summer, I wouldn't be surprised if I was looking for another four, or at least fronts by the time its up.
