Hi,
I'm not refering to aesthetics, but looking for the 'coolest' running card. I can't make my mind up. The 8800GT looks a nice fast card and many here do recommend it, but i'm concerned about these high temperatures many seem to get. I won't be overclocking at all.

Many thanks to all those who replied to my topic in the general hardware forum......................all two of you!

No, seriously, i appreciate any help at all here :)

I'd probably get an 8800GT and a arctic cooling accelero S1.

Keep temps way down - it is rather large though.

Also, the 38** series of cards run very cool in 2D mode due to ATi's great power management - so the might be worth looking at too. Could add an accelero S1 to one of those too.

What budget do you have?

how is temperature going to matter if you don't overclock?

the single slot cooler is enough for 8800GT people freak out when they see 70-80C but the fact is that's within safe range for GPU.

If you do get rediculously high temp it's usually lack of airflow or the crappy pre-applied thermal paste which can be easily replaced. If not you can always send it back for replacement if it's not stable.

Ooh i don't know, could go as high as £250

Well, i'd safely say that every 'cool running' card is well within your budget then.

Depends how cool you want TBH. Most GPU's will happily run to 80c and 90c with no problems. The Accelero i mentioned should bring load temps down to around 60c from what i've seen on the forums and will run very quietly - even with a low RPM 120mm fan (advised) mounted onto it.

My GX2 runs up around 80c in Crysis with no problems.

Many thanks for your imput as well gt. Ah yes, i forgot to say.....it must be a 'quiet' card as well. Not asking for much am i?

No probs! ;)

Yeah, X2 is within budget. Runs around 80c full load at stock fan and core speeds.

Great card too! Bettered my old GTX by a margin. Just a touch noisy in 3D.
