I'd held off posting this publicaly as a marshal was seriously injured in this incident. Since it has occured I have kept updated on his condition and i'm happy to say he is now receovering well (he had a double leg fracture).

I have also sought advice from the marshaling community in general as to whether this video should be posted at all as I did not want to cause any distress to the injured marshal, his team or the marshalling community in general. The consensus was that after a period of time it should be posted.

All correct procedures were followed and it was just a freak incident. It does show the danger that these guys put themselves in though in order for us to race.

I know there are probably not a lot of racers on here but if you wish to show your appreciation for the work the marshals do please click [Like].

Thanks

wow! lucky man to still be alive. wish him a speedy recovery! freak accident like you said! looked like another marshal pulled a guy away while there was a conversation between u and the pits (assume its u?) then he came back out again. why was that?

The crash is at about 1:50 for anyone looking.

Very lucky man in one respect.

I can't believe that they don't get paid though. Especially in those formulas where there is plenty of money.

I think the spotter was just nervous, it's a very quick area of the track. Obviously in hindsight he was right to be nervous. I guess I was lucky also, had they had decided not to recover me I may well have just been getting out of the car at that stage.

That gravel trap is like a war zone!

Is that how marshalling works, one guy does the work whilst the other keeps an eye out for trouble?

Yes, as instructors we get medical and emergency techniques and we are always told to never attend an 'off' without a 'spotter' in place.
