I have an ASUS P5Q (rig in sig), which accepts 1600fsb and 45nm cpus.

I have en e6600 at stock 2.4ghz.

I know the new intel upcoming cpus are a different socket, but are there any more cpus to be released on the core2 platform???

My cpu is the weakest part of my system (according to vista), and I am wondering whether to buy a new cpu now, or later, or just clock mine as high as possible. Previous attemps on my (now dead) DS3 wer 3.4ghz ish (could not get 400fsb but then again kept BSODing due to faulty geil ram).

In my new antec case my cpu idles at 40c.

thanks
EDIT: I couldnt think of a name for the thread Ive just noticed how crap it is:p

I would clock the E6600. It's still a damn good processor (tho an idle temp of 40c at stock isn't a particularly good sign).

In my sonata2 case it was 56 idle! It was then I attempted clocking it.
The cpu fan is on low and so are the case fans at the moment though.

40c is the highest idle, it varies between 35 and 40

afaik there are not going to be any more releases on the LGA775 platform.

The E6600 is plenty capable, but if you want a nice upgrade for gaming then the E8400/E8500 range is nice as they will do over 4ghz and are also around 5-10% faster clock for clock compared to the Conroes.

Either that or a new quad :)
