hi,
so after a couple of posts i've taken the plunge and have ordered the following: i5 760, asus p7p55d-e, bequiet dark power pro p8 900w psu, geil 2x2gb ddr3 12800c9 1600mhz sticks, arctic cooling freezer rev 2 cpu cooler, all items from oc uk and should be here tomorrow. the rest of the bits for the build i already have, the only weakish link being a 8800gtx gfx card which will be replaced asap but probably not as soon as i would like. i shall be seeking advice on the gfx card as there seems to be many options and, of course, there is the nvidia vs ati debate which i'll look into later and post in the appropriate section.
900w is overkill for the psu, 650w was recommended by a few forum members, but with my twisted logic i figured i could not go wrong with the 900w and hopefully i should be using for many years to come. needless to say i'm excited as this is by far the best system i've ever bought, even with the 8800 card in it and its also my first (mostly) new build. i have, in the past, cobbled together pc's with parts scavenged from my pc enthusiast family members.
i will be posting some pics of the build and hopefully won't be posting any problems.
one question for the forum, i've now learnt the importance of a decent psu, why isn't there a section for psu's? it really is an important part of any system.
