I am looking for a general consensus as to what the best virus scanner is for my Vista X86 system. I have access to pretty much all of the well known ones through work.

So please, let me know what A/V you recomend and why.

I myself have been through several, AVG, Mcaffee, NOD32 , Avast. I want the one that is the best protector with the smallest footprint.
Thanks

Most people recommend Nod32 but apparently it isn't anything special when it comes to accuracy. It's light on resources though :)

I use NOD32 and have never had a problem with it. I used to use Kapersky but when it came to version 6 it became too resource hungry but it was an excellent antivirus program

Another vote for NOD32 here. I'm not sure about how it compares against Kapersky and such for detection rates but it hasn't let me down yet, and it's really unobtrusive too. Latest version works perfectly in Vista as well

NOD32 and Kaspersky have very similar detection rates, though I personally prefer the interface of the latter.

For the best blend of detection/performance it's NOD32.

For the best detection bar none with less performance it's Kaspersky.

Quite :D

As has been said above, either Kaspersky or NOD32. Only reason I went with Kaspersky is I like the gui better.

Apparently F-Secure is also up there with NOD32 and Kaspersky. Just to add another option to the mix :D

SiriusB

"Up there" as in the top 5... but it uses an older version of the kaspersky engine that is less effective than NOD32 and KAV6 so I don't think it can compete in that respect.

Yeap been saying nod32/kaspersky in post like this for the past year I think !

nod32 is lovely but I do notice in my daily scans it can miss the odd viruses or so, kaspersky may take few hours sometimes but it picks it up and 90% time can delete the buggers.

Format C:/ and Recovery disc still the best options yet

NOD32, but honestly guys, where are you getting these viruses from? I haven't had one in about 3 years now.

In the last 7 years Ive only had 1 virus, I feel left out :(

I only started using an anti virus less than 6 months ago (Nod32 as well)

I use PC-cillin. Never had a problem with it, my PC is perfectly clean and it's fairly light.
