Just seen the trailer for this on Apple and it looks quite good. Similar sort of film to Donnie Brasco (and most other mob infiltration movies) but what caught my eye was the cast:

Scorsese (Dir)
Leonardo DiCaprio
Matt Damon
Jack Nicholson
Mark Wahlberg
Martin Sheen
Alec Baldwin

That looks like a damn good list to me, so hopefully the film will live up to their hype.

the departed is going to suck in comparasion to infernal affairs! it will have none of the "magic" that infernal affairs has.

it will be another hollywood clone of a japenese film

Saw the trailer and despite the amazing cast and director, it didnt look that good. I really enjoyed watching the Infernal Affairs triology so hopefully it was just a duff trailer.

Looks really poor imo, seems to follow the plot of Infernal Affairs pretty closely, but there just seems to be something missing. It wouldn't surprise me if they followed the plot all they way to the end, but then changed the ending.

i have the trilogy on DVD and didn't even no about this remake till the other week.

when i saw the 2 leading actors i was mortified! what on earth were they thinking! They both look way to clean cut, watch *** original, or if u want something similiar watch heat instead.

I agree, I think Leo is a bit too boyish looking, Johnny Depp wouldve been great in that role.

I laughed when I saw the trailer. Doesn't look anywhere near as good as Infernal Affairs. But I'm still looking forward to it...sucking :p

I thought the trailer looked quite good.

Didn't realise The Departed was a re-make, and I've not seen Internal Affairs so I don't know what it is about, anyone care to explain quickly (with no spoilers :)).

Synopsis from Rottentomatoes.com

"Directed by Andrew Lau and Alan Mak, INFERNAL AFFAIRS is a tense thriller featuring Hong Kong superstars Andy Lau and Tony Leung. The film follows the parallel lives of Ming (Lau), a cop who secretly reports to ruthless Triad crime boss Sam (Eric Tsang); and Yan (Leung), an undercover police officer who poses as a Triad member in Sam's gang. For Yan, the years of living in the criminal underworld have taken their toll, and he longs to return to regular police duty. However, the only person who knows Yan's true identity is his mentor Superintendent Wong (Anthony Wong), also the unsuspecting superior of Ming. When Wong's officers come face to face with Sam's gang, both leaders realize there are moles in their midst. Soon Yan and Ming must track each other down, leading to an inevitable confrontation.

Unlike many contemporary Hong Kong films, INFERNAL AFFAIRS steers clear of over-the-top action in favor of a more stylized and subdued story that builds on emotional and psychological tension. Leung is riveting as the undercover cop who desperately wants a normal life, while Lau instills his corrupt character with confidence and charm that mask his deep inner conflict. These two stellar turns are ably supported by veteran actors Wong and Tsang, along with Sammi Cheng and Kelly Chen. A huge blockbluster in Asia, INFERNAL AFFAIRS is a landmark of Hong Kong cinema that deserves the same status abroad."
