So apparently World of Tanks is getting a 4K texture update for Xbox One, Very different to actually having the resolution at 4K.

But apparently to some people who don't understand tech this now means the Xbox One is a 4K console playing games at 4K.

The intelligence and common sense of some people is quite worrying, I've seen this YouTuber come out with a lot of really really dumb statements in the past but this one really takes the cake :p

You should fix your spelling mistake as you talk about intelligence and common sense :p

What a weird thing to say, No I'm not annoyed I just thought it was funny :p

Ahhh, you know what I mean, he posts tubes of absolute idiocy to make sure they get shown all over the net and thus earns him a nice bit in advertising?

Annoyance may have been a strong word I admit :p

Gotcha, Hell it's midnight my faculties aren't all with me at this hour ^_^

Now excuse me while I find this invisible spelling mistake someone above mentioned :p

So what is the point of 4096x4096 textures on a console? don't a lot of games run at like 1024x600 type actual resolution anyhow?

That was mostly last gens res although I wonder how long it will be befor they are pushed to that res . They mostly sit between 1280x720 @ 1600 x 900 for the Xbox one and 1600x900 and 1920x1080 for the ps4 . We get high res textures in games sometimes such as shadow of mordor on the pc ( that's a give thoug really ) , seeing as they have a decent pool of unified memory , it makes sense to use some of it up if possible although unsure how this will affect performance if at all on the machines

Textures aren't just flat rendered onto the view (would be a pretty boring game). They are mapped onto meshes, stretched, tiled etc. Higher resolution textures = more detailed textures.

You could have a wall texture at 1024x600 and it would look mostly fine when you're looking directly at the wall and its filling the screen. But when you move towards the wall (zoom in) it would get ugly. Higher resolution textures gives you that detail.
