The Descent - *spoilers* + questions

Hiya,

I saw The Descent last night on DVD.

I just wondered,



a) Why on earth would ANYONE do what they did? Climbing through tiny holes in the rock, not knowing if they could even get back the way they came!

b) When the rock collapsed blocking the way they came from, why couldnt they just try and clear the rocks away by passing them up to the other end? Surely a better idea, as for all they know, where there are is just blocked off anyway!

c) WHY did the girl at the end stab the Chinese lady? I never understood it, It was a complete ACCIDENT that the chinese woman stabbed her friend, as she thought it was another one of those creatures...? So why were they all against her?

d) Am I right in saying they ALL die, as the girl at the end is left with a vision of her daughter, who obviously isnt there, so does this mean it's just left meaning to say they all dont make it?

It's what they do dude. Watch a documentary on peeps that do it - it's part of the thrill I guess.

I cant remember this bit exactly, but I distincly remember her doing something nasty... Might have been because she left her behind, and then lied about what happened... I forget.

It's a fair assumption. Killed by the creatures or not, she wasn't leaving that cave.
 
Basically what Otacon said.

1. Caving/potholing is quite a popular sport with some, not my cup of tea at all but there are cave systems in some parts of the world that go for miles and have some incredible caverns and waterfalls.

2. It wasn't like a couple of small pebbles dropped behind them, there was no way anyone could move the amount of rock that fell during the cave-in.

3. The Chinese girl had the chance to save her friend after she was attacked but ran instead, then deceived the others about what happened. Plus, I get the impression from the opening scene when they're rafting that she may have had 'a thing' with the blonde's husband before he and the kid were killed in the car crash.

4. As the camera pans out you can see loads of nasties closing in on her so I'd have thought she karked it.
 
1. I presume the pot holers actually have some map or guide to the caves they are exploring. I doubt they would just go there without some sort of preparation.

3. Yes, the chinese girl was indeed having sexual relations with the blondes husband. The blonde found out when the brunette that was killed by the chinese girl told her that she had been abandoned by the chinese girl. Hope that clears it up! ;)

c - the chinese one was having an affair with the blondes husband, this is blatantly obvious through various things.

1 - "we all lost something that day" meaning the chinese women lost her lover.

2 - "Love each day" the husbands favourite saying, which just happens to be on the love token that the chinese women wears round her neck, which the brunette took off her after she was stabbed. she later shows her the neckpiece to the blonde right before she died.

Main reason that she stabbed her at the end was no doubt for revange and just to leave her to die a grisly death at the claws of the creatures.
