The difference between photography and CGI?

I'm having our website overhauled and a part of it is soem photography of our products.

I want this type of thing going but from what I can see, it's like a combination of 3d modeled stuff and actual photos of the item?!

Does anyone have any indications of what I should be aiming for?

My worry with CGI 3d model type things is that it wouldn't look realistic, the problem with poor quality modeling is that it ends up looking cheap and tacky.

Would I better be off with going with high quality photography?

Those are the smallest pictures in the world. Will people really notice the difference at that resolution?
