the disk is in use and cannot be ejected

just a quick question regarding the error message in the title... when connecting my compactflash card from my camera once i've finished copying everything across from a shoot, i can't ever eject the card

i've tried closing bridge, finder windows or anything that could even vaguelly be using it but i still get this message, and i'm getting a bit concerned as the last thing i want to do is damage the card by just unplugging it as i always do...

it is connected though a CF-USB adapter to my macbook btw...

any ideas whats going on?

Find out what is preventing it.

Cd to volume, find out name of card. Then "lsof | grep NAME" or "lsof /Volumes/NAME"

Could be spotlight - exclude the volume from prefs. Or try ejecting with disk utility. Or killing "fseventsd".

It's probably being indexed by Spotlight.

I generally eject the disk using Cmd + E, and then forget to unplug it until hours later so I can't say I've ever had issues.

If you open Activity Monitor then inspect an application you can see the open files it's holding on to..

Spotlight is normally the culprit.
