the disk structure is corrupted and unreadable

So my external hardrive has failed on me. I've tried to use several programs to get some files off of it or restore it etc. They either cant access it or only give me like 1gb to move without paying.

Anybody know a program that will actually allow me to get what i want off it or repair it?

I have used a program called recovermyfiles from the link below.

you can use the free version to see if it can find anything that you need to recover

You could try a live linux disc.

Boot from the live linux disc, attach the external drive and see if you can read your data.

I love Robocopy, but with some failing drives I've found any explorer/cmd/robocopy access knocks them offline, whereas Unstoppable Copier somehow just powers on through. You can set it to retry once only, this will speed up the process.

If that fails, then try other tools.

Testdisk is great, but dangerous in the wrong hands..
