As other vendors have been saying, HP says that customers moving to Nehalem-based two-socket boxes from the prior generation of ProLiant servers can expect to see about a factor of two performance improvement.

Looking good to replace our branch office multiple servers with 2, dual socket quad cores running ESXi. Theres some serious IO going on with these, especially with the option 8 disk cage giving 16 15k SAS drives...woop woop!

Just been looking at these in the HP Product Bulletin.
Hopefully get a couple of these running ESX 3.5 hooked up to an MSA for our development and test environment.
Got 2 DL385's running ESX 3.0.2 at the moment with out many issues(touch wood).

The DL385 G5p had a 16 2.5" SAS drive option, so probably a similar front panel layout to that on the DL380 G6.

Ooooh, pretty.....

Had our suppliers trying to flog these. As stated above, supposed to be 2.25x faster on certain workloads (namely those recompiled...)

Looks tasty though, hopefully won't be too long till I have one or 2 to play with.

you running VMware locally or on a SAN with the G6?

Just a standalone server at present, for what we want to do in the future we will probably be using DAS on the MSA's rather than a SAN. Id love to utilise DRS and VMotion but we dont require HA plus there is the associated cost with such an implementation.

Hahahaha the finance people here had to get "rid" of last years budget and just ordered around 70 G5's! I bet someone is in the shizzle now due to these new G6's. I just wish they actually use them, it's annoying when you have to work on ageing G3 and sometimes even G2 machines.

Thanks for the heads-up! Just ordered an R710 for a new VM node. :D

Hi Daz,

Sorry to the OP for slighty off topic. What spec did you order daz? I want to know all the details, I want one of these :(

Has anyone been able to get prices on these yet?

My Oz supplier promised me part numbers and prices 2 weeks ago, but as of yet I've still not been able to get anything. They keep telling me that I'll get something within the next few days.

Really looking to get hold of a few of these in a C3000 chassis so I can build up a QA test platform.

It really depends on price and whether the additional cost is worth it for the extra SSE4.2 extensions that Nehalem brings to the table (which is the main reason we are looking at them due to a product we are building).

***Edit*** Looking at it again, I don't think these are blades. Sorry.
