How do I get rid of the dog on facebook thats always on the left hand side. Dont get me wrong I love dogs but seeing the advert constantly is just off putting and makes me want to stop using facebook. I might start a group actually to rid the poo thing from facebook

it's funny you should say that because about 5 minutes ago I installed a greasemonkey script which blocks the facebook adverts (didn't really care about the adverts, I installed it for the extra link in the menu for All friends).

Only works if you have firefox and greasemonkey installed, obviously.

Found it on the comments for this blog:

a good friend of mine wrote a greasemonkey script that adds in a few usability tweaks you might find useful

http://home.meastman.org:9000/software/greasemonkey/facebookfixes.user.js

it has the following functionalities:
1) blocks some advertisements
2) adds “My Friends (ALL) ” and “My Friends (Updated) ” to the navigation bar
3) adds a HOME link to the navigation bar
4) Add “hide old friends” or “collapse friends” links to some pages

might write one to reorder the groups page how you want one day...

edit: join the OcUK group.

Add the following line of text to the end of the C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file:

127.0.0.1 cdn2.adsdk.com

Then restart your browser.

what does this do?

thanks

The image doesn't load, instead you get a broken link. Just tried it here as the advert is bloody annoying.

Will reroute all requests directed at that advertising server to 127.0.0.1 (localhost), and will therefore result in a broken link.

A bit of a bodge, but as long as the broken link does not affect page formatting or the like, it should work fine :)

Because he is a member of facebook? Funny, it's been around for a while and up until now was only for university students. You'd be surprised how many mature students are on there too. It's nothing like myspace though, thank goodness.

Facebook is HUGE at the University of Nottingham, and popular at many other universities. In fact Univesity students make up the majority on there. It's pretty much assumed that you have an account, and many nights out etc are only advertised on Facebook. Everyone single one of these people is going to be in the 18+ range, which would be pre 1988.

Looks like the branch snapped :p :)

Pretty much everyone here at uni here has facebook. I'll go out on a limb and say you are very much in the minority in not having it.
