The end of cheap travel

Nobody I know has been to Australia/NZ and survived off dry noodles. Idiotic wording from some numpty.

There will always be a range of travelers in all echelons of society and \i don't know how NZ in this case would be able to stop the undesirable poor people travelling to their country. ( I have relatives in NZ and they are probably the type of people NZ would try to stop entering and travelling through NZ!

Last week, New Zealand’s tourism minister reiterated his desire to attract “high quality tourists ” rather than those who campervan around the country “on $10 [€7] a day by eating dried noodles.”

Bloody snob.

That's a really poor quality article - there are no real measures amongst those listed aimed at reducing low-spend tourism.

I don't understand where they get the 10 euro flight from. Because even in the BBC story it quoted the prices between 40 and 50 euros.

Thank goodness for that, me and the good woman can finally visit some countries and not have to put up with dry noodle eating, BO smelling hippies spoiling it for us.
Hopefully the same will happen to Monaco and camping will be outlawed

New Zealand was still letting the billionaires in when the country was supposed to be in quarantine, I'd imagine the paid helpers who fly around with them were going in too.

seems like these places think it's the poor bringing covid and other diseases with them

hahaha we've always got noodles and little American pancakes in a backpack :D I best not goto NZ as it will add fuel to the fire lol

The locals and shop owners were actually talking about this in lofoten where I was.

Its becoming a tourist hot-spot. And the infrastructure isn't geared up for it.

A big issue is you can camp anywhere. So in theory there is no capacity limit.

I suspect the right to free roam might be redacted or something.

If cheap travel for the working classes (and as a mechanic I put myself under that umbrella) hadn't started in the 1960's the world may well have been able to get a handle on the Chinese Virus. Cheap travel certainly has its downsides, as does loose or no border controls.

Clearly this guy doesn't know how much it costs to 'campervan around the country!'

I'm in NZ and haven't heard this. However, if it was true, the campervan holiday is a MASSIVE market here, and it's not exactly cheap either. Heres an example of a 2 week hire, which you'd need minimum to explore this country, this price is obviously without flights, which from UK would be another couple of grand at least, and insurance for the van, which would be another $600 for sufficient cover. Then, you will need to spend some nights in desginated camp sites to recharge your batteries, these start from $50 a night, fuel for a road trip from Auckland to Queenstown would be around $700, It's not exactly a 'cheap' holiday now is it!
