The end of overclocking is nigh?

I can see this being abandoned, if true.

EU would use WEEE to have a field day with this. Failed/underpowered CPU means replacing the whole motherboard?

like they did with Apple's non usb thunderbolt cable.

CPU would be tested as part of the whole. underpowered would have to be tested as well.

The move to offer BGA MCMs is reportedly fueled by the market trend towards low-powered CPUs and ultra-thin form factors. However there's speculation that Intel will still provide CPUs in LGA packaging for high-end desktop platforms only.

How many more times are we going to hear 'it's the end of overclocking'
I have heard this so many times in the past.

The cheap CPU's will come already attached to a MB this is not new.
I had an AMD 386 DX 40 soldered to the MB years ago.

Enthusiasts and Workstation CPU's will still be socketed.
