"THE INTRODUCTION of new labour laws in mainland China could mean the price of computer kit soars, according to the Taiwanese Economic Times.

China is set to introduce the Labor Contract Law which will affect 100,000 Taiwanese companies which manufacture on the mainland.

The Times said the law will prevent mass layoffs, introduce severance pay, and impose a stricter regime than prevails in Taiwan itself.

The report reckons the "golden days" for Taiwanese businesses exploiting cheap labour are at an end. Most Taiwanese companies started to outsource their manufacturing some years ago."
