The England Cricket Thread

Ali is capable of batting more than 'a bit'. Genuine all rounder.
37 with ball and 28 with bat says otherwise. He has the abilities but never seemed to reach the heights he could. To be fair Cook and Root were ordinary captains and never understood the Ali was an attacking bowler, and juggling him up and down the batting order meant he never developed.

I don't get why people are dissing our players so badly when
Steve Smith scored 22
Warner got 4
Khawaja got 13
and Labuschagne got 21

This is clearly a pitch where good bowling will get wickets. If we were playing the Leeds schoolboy 11 I would agree but we are playing against some of the best bowlers in the world.

If England had of held all the catches Aus would have been out for 120.

Boycott always says don't judge until both teams have had a bat.

IF (and granted its a very large one) Stokes can put in an 80+ then the scores after the first innings from both will be somewhat close and we will be down really to a single innings match.
Unless something changes this doesn't look like a 300+ wicket with these teams playing.

All fair points but.

We've repeatedly made the same mistakes in every match. Dropping catches, Bairstow letting balls go etc.

Dropping catches are not batting though.

Bairstow I get is a bit marmite. I mean the team selection is because he can bat.

IMO this series has been close, but England could well have won either or both with a bit more brains. I am all for Bazball but there are times even when attacking to take your foot off the gas.
Even if its for 10 overs.

There is a real risk that disappointment clouds judgement.
This is not lost, but its certainly on the edge right now.
Add 100 runs and IMO its game on.

Weather more likely an issue at that point :(

Stupidest cricket team I have ever seen. Ali falls straight into the trap. You'd also think the way they catch and how sloppy their general play is that they were trying to throw the game.

Baz ball? Thanks I've seen enough, quality teams will simply take advantage of this this simplistic, hubristic style of "test cricket" and roll England over.

Bairstow shoudn't be let near a pair of wicket-keeping gloves again, he's terrible. And what everyone has forgotten about with the stumping drama (perfectly fine IMO) that Bairstow's rank stupidity cost England any chance of winning the game.

Another absolutely pathetic showing.

What Nas is saying here is absolutely spot on, this idea that it's ok to throw your wicket away because "it's better than getting out in a different way" is so stupid, it's a lazy cop-out for players who can't knuckle down and play properly...

Baz ball isn't a show of mental strength it is an expression of mental weakness in the face of adversity, the Aussies are here to win, England aren't. It's that simple.
