The England Cricket Thread

“Record attendance for a cricket match at the MCG” is what the scoreboard said. Given not many other stadiums rival it then I presume it’s the highest ever attendance at a cricket game worldwide. They get close to 100k for the AFL finals but they don’t have the empty sections for sight screens etc.

Joke of a test. Perth was due to incompetence of England's batsmen. This was due to incompetence of the pitch.

But good to see England finally work out where to bowl and stick there and able to cope with the pressure of the chase with some cavalier batting. Once again Head the standout batter.

Does this mean we now qualify for a certificate of participation?
Just feels like a massively unsatisfying test series imo and that's not just due to the result!

Been 2 Mickey Mouse tests out of 4. Games finishing in 2 days does the game of test cricket no good at all no matter who wins.

Riddle me this. What's the point of producing a wicket that gives so much advantage to the bowlers it means the match is finished in two days. If you own and run the Melbourne cricket ground you've just done yourself out of $15m of ticket sales (93,000 people at $50 a ticket X 3 days) + all the other ancillary revenues from the bars and merchandise

Totally agree. It’s the centre piece of a lot of people’s summer holidays too, the ground is slap bang in the middle of town as well so hurts bars and restaurants that are within a short walk away. Perth was on the incompetence of the players but this is on the head groundsman. He should be sacked.

England 3 for 211, I'm calling this one a win for the visitors. Reckon it'll definitely go to day 5.
