The England Cricket Thread

For all the talk of good English bowling, how have we given away 40 extras in this innings? :p

I guess if it was a close game then they may have made more of a deal of it. I think Stokes was trying to swing the ball a lot so occasionally he goes wide. Also Wood was saying in an interview before the match that he's been running just over the line quite a bit.

Well done England well done on regaining the Ashes. Guess there was no need for KP to come back and help you get it back. Aussies did a bloody good job of handing them back to you lol.

Australia?? Just lol at how you tried to defend the Ashes lol.

Just hearing Clarke is calling it a day after the next test. Don't blame him, he has been absolutely atrocious this ashes series.

Throwing for skins @iBuyPower

Some kind of betting arrangement did cross my mind :p. Clarke's 34, would be quite a nice little pension pot and he's hardly leaving the game in total disgrace.

Although I've never forgiven him for the entirely classless "Get ready for a broken ******* arm" incident. Just another archetypal base Australian male :D.

Wow, well chuffed for Root.

He's now ranked officially as the ICC's world best test batsman.

We also have the 2nd and 3rd best bowlers in the world. Just Daryl Steyn preventing us from an ICC ranking lockout.

And he's only 24!

He seems quite a funny chap, watched his post-match interview with a bit of humour.

Joe Root was awesome, he's such a stable player and he's in great form right now. I can't wait to see what he produces in the next test.

I do hope that they leave Anderson out in the final test. He needs to rest anyway and the others can then have a chance at some more experience.

I just wonder how things would have turned out if the proper Australia had turned up. I don't know if it's a cover, or if it is genuinely true, but the reports of turmoil in the Australian camp put an interesting viewpoint on how they've played recently. I think that England would have fallen apart had they played properly and been a cohesive team. I know there's relief at regaining the Ashes, but I do still think that there are many weak links within the team and this needs to be addressed in full before we run into further problems. Lyth has no place in the team, Cook is still regaining form and I think it's wrong that he's doing that in such an important tournament, Bell has had some luck but still isn't playing very well at all. If Joe Root wasn't in the form he's in, the tournament would have had a completely different outcome from the batsmen's end.

I know some might not want to hear this but it really needs to be said. Simply put, England have been quite lucky that the proper, truly aggressive Australia didn't turn up and instead we've had a subdued, quiet team touring instead.

England wins the toss and chooses to field. The pitch looks very inviting for bowlers.

Australia has brought back Siddle.

Got tickets for Day 4 and 5, expecting rain on the former hence buying one late for the latter.

Annoying thing about living right next to the Oval is when England/Surrey are bowling and a wicket is taken, you get a delay of 3/4 seconds.

Left the flat quickly this morning to be greeted with this...test cricket is definitely in town.

0 for 82 at lunch, might take an early night and hope I don't wake up to a batting collapse tomorrow.

 :p
