Roll on March 14th. Should be great with 4 new circuits.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_Formula_One_season

The championship will see the addition of four new and returning races: the Grand Prix of Russia will be held for the first time at the Sochi International Street Circuit in Sochi, and the Grand Prix of America will be held at the Port Imperial Street Circuit in Weehawken, New Jersey, whilst the Grands Prix of Austria and Mexico will be revived, with the races to be held at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, and the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City respectively.

Couple of questions that may have been answered in the forum but which I've probably missed.

How come they're going from 2.4 V8 to 1.6 V6, doesn't that mean less power?

What's happening with Perez since Kevin Magnussen is now pairing up with Button?

For fuel effeciency. However they are going turbo charged as well.
Engine will have less power, but kers has double the power and 10times the energy. Meaning kers can be uswd for a significant part of the lap. Overall they are hoping to maintain the 750bhp they currently have when kers is deployed, which now can be a massive part of the lap, especially when you take out breaking and cornering zones.

Explained more here

So KERS will be used more per lap than it has been, interesting.

Pity about Di Resta. I'd like to have seen him offered a different seat with a better team, say with McLaren or Lotus. Still, Force India have been doing quite well I suppose.

I wonder if Max Chilton has been offered anything or if he's out of F1. Didn't exactly show any extraordinary talent through the season albeit he was in the slowest car.

The technical aspects are interesting and the green components are a sign of the times, but I have never like fuel restrictions or false restrictions such as those with tyres that see teams using the word 'managing the situation', which for anything outside of a problem is bad for the sport. I also think 750bhp is not enough and I would have preferred something close to 1000bhp which would have seen the cars more unsettled and therefore difficult to exploit.

In the previous generations of turbos you had problems that simply won't effect todays cars such a big lag, massive variance in power delivery and huge power. I fear modern cars are going to be much like the current ones, but sounding less good.

Good post.

Cynic mode: Engaged...

the Grand Prix of Russia will be held for the first time at the Sochi International Street Circuit in Sochi
Yay! A race around a car park in a now disused Olympic white elephant.

the Grand Prix of America will be held at the Port Imperial Street Circuit in Weehawken, New Jersey
Not going to happen

Grands Prix of Austria
Hurrah! A circuit actually worthy of an F1 race! (no sarcasm)

Mexico will be revived
Be surprised if this happens now Perez will be a midfield runner at best and Gutierrez will be off to Indycar or Brazilian stock cars.

The old layouts don't work with modern F1 cars. Corners that were a challenge 30 years ago would be easy flat in today's cars.

Not really, he is a run of the mill driver who is quite happy to drive to a target, when have you ever felt he has extracted every last 100th of a second out of the car?

Saying that, he shouldn't lose a seat purely because some other driver has a big fat wallet

Really? DiResta has out performed him for the majority of the year and has almost double Sutil's points haul.

Yeah, that's what I was going to say, and Di Resta has had significantly more bad luck with 3-4 races where the team majorly screwed up his qualifying with timing/tactical screw ups, a few his own fault as well, but considering all the screw up's that he's still beaten Sutil in qualifying, I think Sutil has been pretty damn poor.

Di Resta has only finished lower than 9th twice, Sutil has done that 8 times, 3 13th's, a 14th and a 16th in there for Sutil while Di Resta has 2 11th place finishes for his worst.

Even with a horrendous run of 5 DNF's, Di Resta is pretty much spanking Sutil.

That first race Sutil qualified poorly but gained places and went past Di Resta on track, made him look good, his next good qualifying as well. He got his 5th in Monaco and has done absolutely nothing since then. Di Resta without the bad luck really would have shown off some talent this year, I doubt he'd get a better driver off a not great season due to many of the teams and his mistakes, but one good year and he could/should get a chance somewhere better.

Didn't he qualify fifth in Silverstone this year before a penalty?
