The Falklands thread

heh i just noticed something. you know they said that if William went to the falklands he'd be going wearing the uniform of a conqueror, the submarine that sank the Belgrano was the HMS conqueror :p

wonder if they could get him one of those uniforms to arrive in :D

Is it so hard to imagine a soldier going onto the island, waiting til night and sabotaging things?

It doesn't even have to be Military targets.

Of course if you want to bring up the problem of an Argentinian being obvious, there are plenty of mercenaries for hire, some even British.

It *does* have to be military targets, or at least targets aiding the military. Not that Argentina follows any international law, but in THEORY lol.

Which is why i said terrorism, its a logical course of action if you want people off the island.

I am in no way supporting them, its just seems obvious.

I'd ring the MOD, I'll bet they never thought of that......

Let us all know how you get on.

That look even worse for Argentina than a second UN-ignoring invasion. Right now we have the political support of the EU and a few other countries, the rest don't really care.

But we all know what happens to states that support terrorism in this day and age.

Did you forget that Argentina is backed now by the entirety (or almost anyway) of the South american continent?

They are quite steadily coming closer together with one another, while the UK drifts further apart from its own allies.

I only implied terrorism as a rock bottom choice of a nation, one could hide it by blaming it on some group within Argentine, if they were again smart enough, ofcourse i highly doubt they would stoop this low, however, for such a pointless issue over some relatively pointless island, people tend to get pointless ideas.

Hell perhaps the US will again supply our terrorists with weapons (IRA)?

It might look like they have support right now, but believe me, if something kicked off that support would evaporate faster than the peso's value. The other countries in question have far more to worry about than Argentina's territorial ambitions, Brazil and Chile especially are much more interested in their own affairs and the others just don't matter at all in this situation.

The backing the south american countries are giving Argentina is untested so far. They all say they support Argentina, and they all (but one) closed their ports to ships flying the Falklands flag. But none have joined in the boycott of *all* British ships, and only Venezuela has mentioned military support.

Argentina is taking quite the expansionist stance. Claiming some areas currently under Chilean and Uruguayan control. And these are supposed to be allies.

Our biggest supporter in this will always be France, as they have their own Overseas Territories to worry about. The USA will probably speak out against any actions but provide support in some way, as for them it is best to be seen to be friendly with SA without letting them get too strong.

Argentina's biggest threat right now is looking silly and childish. Anyone looking at the Type 45 will see it has very little offensive capabilities, in fact in this respect its a downgrade from the Type 42 it is replacing that has anti-ship missiles.
The claims that they have intelligence on the location of a Vanguard SSBN in the area, again, made them look silly. It is a stealth ship, whose location is a state secret and its weapons have a 7000 range anyway.
The economic blockade on the islands isn't in the news much, but there are concerns about the way they are doing it. Mainly with the overfishing leading to severely depeleated stocks.
