The Falklands thread

The population of the MALVINAS aren't native. The British put them there. You cannot fill islands with your own citizens and then claim you have consensus from the population. We have no more legitimacy in the South Atlantic then the Turks do in Nortrhern Cyprus. How about home-rule for the Falklands.

What happened to the natives of Argentina...

Will Argentina be returned to the native south Americans and will the desendants of Imperial Spain be shipped back to Spain?

“Here and now we are talking of 3.000 people that have the right to self-determination, enshrined in the UN charter and who want to continue being British”

“we are not ruled by the UK we have our own elected government which runs all affairs with the exception of foreign affairs and defence (obvious). The Islands are self sufficient, well managed and Islanders are peaceful, hard working and resilient”.

“This is not a colony, this is an Overseas Territory, with all the right in the world to self determination”, the essence of democracy and human rights. “No blockade or aggressive campaign full of distorted facts are going to change our mind, on the contrary it makes us more resilient and more distant from Argentina”.

It's not about what Britain or Argentina wants, it's what the Falkland Islanders want - under the UN charter they are the ones who have the right to decide.

Not to be a ****-stirrer, but I wonder what Britains stance would be if the Islanders wanted independence or wanted to call themselves Argentinian.

If the islanders decide to cut ties with Britain - then the British stance would be irrelevant.

Quite, lets ship out the descendants of the original 1833 inhabitants and replace them with Argentinians who have no link to the islands whatsoever.

Great logic.

Well, one can't really happen without the other.

If the islander got full independence (i.e. look after their own defense/foreign affairs) the argies would be there in a jiffy.

I've never known anyone to be as uninformed as you. Well done!

yeah lets put the native argentines there instead.. oh wait...

The whole thing is a political smokescreen by the Argentinian President. Any talk about the Empire, colonisation, oil, self determination is just red herring. I don't think there is any intention to invade but it sounds good to the voters...let them talk it will save a lot of money and lives if that's the worst that happens.

sabre rattling will win her an election and masks the problems of her economy.

Anything more than that....will screw her over big time.

The Argentinians claim the land is theirs based on their Spanish ancestry. The Spanish, if I recall correctly, are from Spain and also not native.

Also your oil argument is irrelevant as we've been there since 1833 and the oil belongs to The Falklands government, not the British.

Are you just trolling or trying to look silly.
