Hmmm arknor. They are sanctions, that's what economic blockades are?

I don't care much for the British state itself, or colonial hangovers, but I do strongly empathise with the islanders themselves. Self determination is self determination no matter where it arises.

Are you happy with the war of rhetoric, atmosphere of fear and economic sanctions?

The Islanders don't seem to be afraid, are doing rather well for themselves thankyou very much, and seem more than happy enough to brush off the colonialist aggression of the bully in their neighbourhood.

So yes, happy !

I think a few have been unsettled by the rhetoric coming from their western neighbours. It isn't the best situation to be living under I would imagine. They are almost universal in their identity, but to give the impression there is nothing to see here sort of thing is slightly bending the reality somewhat.

Looking at Google info on Argentina's military, it doesn't seem to have come on much since 1982. The best fighter aircraft they seem to have is a Mirage III which is a 1950s design as is the uprated A4s they use. I can't see them giving Typhoons and Tyoe 45s any real problems.

They have a sub force of three German built diesel electrics built in the 1980s. Would they give Astute class subs any problems, assuming they could locate them ?

They are more of a danger to themselves than anything else, between the three of them they managed 19hrs submerged in the whole of 2012

Is a DE boat truly silent enough to evade Astute class sonar even while stationary?

Yes, all Diesel Electric boats can go truly dead in the water, with all machinery stopped. For a certain length of time.

Nuclear boats cannot, they always have to run pumps to cool the reactor.

Its a bit of a one trick pony i guess, but allegedly an Argentine boat was sat on the bottom of San Carlos sound in 1982 and we never could find it.

If it moved it was dead, and it knew it, so it was suppressed i guess but nonetheless it was there and it was a threat had its captain and crew wished to commit suicide after putting a torpedo in something.

problem is he also makes up a few things also. im guessing our media is getting more and more like the states every day now.

this little part. (not sure why i said a few things just having one of those days i guess)

Britain's refusal to negotiate with a democratic Argentina – when it was happy to talk to the country's dictators

funny as i thought it was the argies who refused to talk with us when we invited the islanders to be involved, after all they do live there.

What do you feel he makes up?

It's that the poll was a foregone conclusion and designed to miss the entire point of Britain's dispute with Argentina over the islands – which began 180 years ago when one of Lord Palmerston's gunboats seized them and expelled the Argentine administration.

Argentina didn't exist until 1856 so how could they have had an Administration on the Falklands in 1833?

Jeesus WEPT.

How can the Guardian get away with that level of trolling?!

That article was a crock of troll ****.

The Argies will never, EVER have an agreement from us over the islands, its as simple as that.

Its really REALLY boring now.
