The Falklands thread

It was flying at the last sunderland airshow. It is one seriously impressive LOUD aircraft!

Yeah, an awesome plane, sadly iirc the are no Victors allowed to fly (not that that stopped them :P) and I always preferred the Victor to the Vulcan, much better plane.

Isn't the Russian navy phasing out it's SU-33 fleet in favour of a navalised MiG 29 ?

Ish, they are not getting rid of the Su's they have just stopped buying new ones in favour of the cheaper Migs as both planes will be superseded anyway by the new 5th gen naval fighter, they will be running the Su's alongside the new Migs.

Why not allowed to fly? Just not airworthy, or another reason?

We were at the pinnacle of its turning circle, something that large should really not be able to fly! Its magic im telling ya!

I could be wrong here but wasnt it a victor that exploded over Afghanistan killing all crew? The investigation afterwards showed loads of falls with the current fleet and was the final nail in the coffin? or it was a different aircraft but this was the reason they decided they were final to old as well. They decided it was cheaper to keep them on the ground.(I havent googled this as im replying quickly while at work so could be 100% wrong)

I wonder what the chances are that the Church will get involved now due to the popes wonderfully coincidental identity.

Kirchner has asked the Pope to intervene so dialogue between the two sides is successful. Kirchner and the Pope can moan all they like for all I care, its the Islanders choice and not some barmy Argentine President!

Is the Vulcan the massive delta wing plane? If so we had one fly over us in Cambridge a few years ago. Huge, and very loud!

Urrgh,

this is one of the few things that instantly riles me.

It was NEVER theirs to begin with, its so so so boring now.

Tbh, you would think they would have learnt after being battered in the war, but no.

What else do we need to do to get them to shut it, and leave the issue alone? I mean, getting the Pope onboard is such a desperate measure.

Vulcan is a childhood inspiration for many many people :-) It's just an epic aircraft (And to be honest, you wouldn't think it was that old given it's design!)

The Pope won't get involved, by his own admission he want the Church to take a more spiritual position in society and in his address earlier this week stated that the Church should not be a political entity and it detracts from the true purpose of the Church which is to help the Poor.

He would make a pretty big home-goal if he subsequently gets entangled in Kirchner's rhetoric.

That cane as no great shock.

Scummy beggars will sink to any depths. If he says a word the peado church he represents can go **** off. (Overly macho patriotism :p)

At a Mass last year, he told Argentine veterans of the Falklands War: "We come to pray for all who have fallen, sons of the Homeland who went out to defend their mother, the Homeland, and to reclaim what is theirs."

lolwut

how do you defend your homeland by invading and being the aggressors

The new pope and Kirchner have fallen out in the past according to that bbc link

"Ms Fernandez gave a muted welcome to the Pope's election. The two have clashed in the past, especially over social reforms promoted by her and her late husband in the face of Church opposition.

When the then-Cardinal Bergoglio argued that gay adoptions discriminated against children, Ms Fernandez said his tone harked back to "medieval times and the Inquisition".

Mr Kirchner once referred to him as the "head of the opposition".

So once again this just screams of using what ever means she can scrape together to bring the falkland islands issue backup.

She really is a complete pillock. How on earth is she in charge of herself let alone a country. She seems to treat politics like someone who reads The Sun.

I thought all said was directly to the clergy?
