The Falklands thread

The British position is that it is up to the people who live there. If they decided they wanted negotiations, they'd get them.

^Exactly that, and why the Hell should any foreign power intervene in that open and democratic process?

It seems to me that those that criticise Britain about its stance on the FI actually know very little about the location's history.

so were they asked? (the Chinese in Hong Kong) or are you assuming that is what they wanted?

Funny that most of these ruling Argies are descended from European colonisers but they want the European colonisers out of the Falklands even though they have no ancestral or geographics claim to them. The Falklands are have been inhabitated by Brits for centuries and they people wish to remian British.

The glaring fact I see missing from US MSM reports is that the islanders ARE and WANT to be British.

You're not half as clever as you think you are. You're probably thought the Iraq War was fought over oil when Western oil companies got almost no contracts in post-war Iraq and the Western people got deeper into debt funding an absurd war which could never be won. It's not like an invading force goes into the ME and takes possession of the oil. 'Oil' is part of the allowed counter-thought to stop people questioning what are really Zionist wars. Think for yourself.

If our navy gets dragged into the Zionist war in Iran, Argies might strike then and we will be unable to stop them.

BTW, our navy once used to rule the world - now it is a 4th rate power which might now be able to protect the Falklands for much longer. We cut our navy since we bailed out criminal bankster parasites and this was done without opposition from the masses who are controlled by the media.

What?

You are coming across as having absolutely no idea what the situation is/was in the countries being discussed. Is it too much to ask that you find a bit out before forming opinion?

The people of Hong Kong were not asked if they wanted to be Chinese because such a question was irrelevent. We did not own Hong Kong -we signed a 99 year lease for it in 1898.

First... lolChavez

Second:
Venezuela's left-wing president has raised the stakes over the Falkland Islands by pledging his armed forces would fight alongside Argentina in any conflict with Britain.

lol @ a socialist wanting to take something...

Even at that, the UK Navy can still out-class the Argentinian Navy. They would be daft to attack the FI.

What I think would be interesting would be what the USA ACTUALLY did if we needed a hand (not that we would in this case). I know what Obama's stance on the FI are but I wonder if they would bow to some form of political pressure given their "you're either with us or against us" rhetoric for their "War on Terror" after 9/11.

As long as the islanders wish to remain British, then there's nothing to discuss, except perhaps the cost of removing the thousands of land mines that the Argentinians left behind after their defeat in 1982.

(And on the subject of mines, the Argentinians are hardly going to win the Islanders over while they refuse to hand over the maps to the minefields they do have.)

This is all about politics. It's one of the few issues outside football that the argentinens have a universal consensus on, over here it make Cameron looks good...

Neither side wants a conflict, as losing would be fail and Argentina has very little military power anyway.

Just one example of why your first statement is wrong:

http://www.activistpost.com/2010/07/bp-awarded-massive-iraq-oil-contracts.html

If you Google a little bit you will find much of post war Iraqi oil contracts have gone to Western companies.

So the conclusion is that the peoples wishes were not particularly high up on our agenda and you believe that we handed over Hong Kong because we had signed an agreement.

You are so naive.

If Hong Kong had huge reserves of oil and was not right next to a super power do you really think we would have abided so compliantly with the 'lease'.

If Argentina had the military might of China do you think we would give a 4X about the wishes of the inbred s who live there.

I think they would have been repatriated long ago.

The UK is now known around the world as the school bully or rather the pathetic little squirt who hangs around with the school bully.

We are in the process of being found out.

The Falklands is 400 miles off the Argentine and Chilean coast, do you know what else is 400 miles away?

Norway!

Argentina didn't exist when we took it from the French as the Argentine's we're Spanish. The whole thing deserves a massive

How long before somewhere really becomes "yours"? Surely on the same basis of Argentinian claims they should hand their own sovereignty back to Spain
