The Falklands thread

So the conclusion is that the peoples wishes were not particularly high up on our agenda and you believe that we handed over Hong Kong because we had signed an agreement.

We handed over Hong Kong because we leased it from the Chinese and this lease came to an end, yes.

If Hong Kong had huge reserves of oil and was not right next to a super power do you really think we would have abided so compliantly with the 'lease'.

Yes.

btw, it is only recently that oil has been discovered in the Falklands. Back in 1982 there was no knowledge of oil there and it played no part in any decisions made at the time.

BTW, our navy once used to rule the world - now it is a 4th rate power which might now be able to protect the Falklands for much longer. We cut our navy since we bailed out criminal bankster parasites and this was done without opposition from the masses who are controlled by the media.

What total and utter bile, have you seen how capable the Type 45 is? It's got more firepower and ability to shoot down more aircraft than 5 Type 42's, however given that the Argentina has hardly got an aircraft worth flying this is a moot point, so without air supremacy how exactly are you going to take the island?

We're waiting for them this time, they would be foolish to try again.

Mind saying that if it does kick off it's going to get very messey very quickly.

United states would love to have go at him

Given that Chavez constantly spouts anti-American rhetoric and has been in power for over 10 years, in charge of hugely oil-rich country within the American sphere of influence - why do you think they havn't invaded him yet? This is where the 'war for oil' fraud is exposed - because he is not an enemy of Israel (as Iraq, Syria and Iran are) and Israel controls America.

Even at that, the UK Navy can still out-class the Argentinian Navy. They would be daft to attack the FI.

Even when our puppet masters have us bogged down in another Zionist war in Iran which we pay for and the US has already made clear they don't care about our claims to the Falklands?

Oh man we're in trouble if they go for those islands - our poor military has been decimated in defence cuts.

Still shocked they binned the Harriers. That is the CAS aircraft the guys on the ground will NEED over there and they will miss it.

Ive always felt that we should order new-built A-10s. Royal Air Force + GAU8 = BRING IT

Like the Americans are going to shout from the rooftops they support us, they have other interests / stabilitys to keep in mind, doesn't mean they won't help us in other ways though.

No, this isn't 1982, welcome to 2012.

Quite, I suggest people here who think we're going to be involved in some massive bloodbath go and look at what the Argentina armed forced consist of, especially their flagship and what armaments we have down there. It would last about three days.

There's very much a cold war going on between Us and Iran at the moment.

Cold war would insinuation throw backs to Russia vs USA, Iran is just saber rattling to secure votes in the upcoming elections. Any miliraty conflict would involve Iran looking like Beirut.

We will do as we did last time and dip into NATO stock ie lastest version of the sidewinder ect Also we can reach down town B/A this time ;-)

it isn't ?

No, its not.

It was Spanish, and then became defacto Argentinian for a few years when Argentina gained independance from Spain. We then took them back again afterwards.

But really, so what? That was hundreds of years ago. If we are going to reset the world map back to 1810 then the entire face of the planet would change!

Argentina is a country with big internal political issues. Argentians themselves agree on very few things but the Falklands is one of them - a good cause to get the people to rally behind to take minds off the real issues. For more information on making a load of fuss about something external to hide the disaster that is domestic affairs, see also Iran.

The problem i have is the Type 45 is untested in battle, should a sea skimming missile hit that (out of total luck) then it's all but over imho, provided we can fend off what little they have in the way of fighters, using both our type 45 and Eurofighters / air defence then without air cover anything trying to enter the waters around the islands or land will bee a sitting duck.

Without serious help by another nation i simply can't see how they can take the island.
