The Falklands thread

Lol :p - I know we have Eurofighter there and it will dominate from day one eating Mirages & Etendards for breakfast.

I was just on about a CAS platform to support the guys on the ground... and its just sad that we've lost the Harrier. The USMC love their AV8Bs.

I mean ..do we have a good mud-mover? The ground-attack Tornadoes I guess. Still envy the Americans and their stellar A10. I remember watching reports on TV from Afghanistan where UK soldiers caught in a firefight said they have never heard a sweeter sound than the chainsaw-crackle of the GAU8!

Cold war would insinuation throw backs to Russia vs USA, Iran is just saber rattling to secure votes in the upcoming elections.
No, we are very much involved in fighting a cold war with Iran at the moment, from the use of technological weapons like hacking and so on, to the fighting of proxy wars such as Iraqi insurgency groups. Have no doubts that we have covert operations in Iran now acting against their nuclear sites.

Quite, I suggest people here who think we're going to be involved in some massive bloodbath go and look at what the Argentina armed forced consist of, especially their flagship and what armaments we have down there. It would last about three days.

Mmm flagship meets nuke powered sub one winner SUB

We can resupply in 24hours

Tomahawk cruise missile aimed at corn beef factory .......... Argies 0 united kingdom 2

They can't be that covert if you've managed to find out all about them. Did you find a confidential defence document on a bus or something? :p

Russian, Chinese and French firms got bigger contracts than US firms even thought they funded nothing towards the war.

Time to educate yourself as to what the real forces at play were. You won't find those on the BBC or some conspiracy website. Use your head.

Like the Americans are going to shout from the rooftops they support us, they have other interests / stabilitys to keep in mind, doesn't mean they won't help us in other ways though.

The people who run the US actively want us to become a weakened power and to lose our naval outposts. These people are not our Anglo-Saxon brethren.

After reading his jibbering about Zionist wars, I'm surprised you bothered to take the time to research a reply. :p

Please refute the facts. If you believe that the Zionist agenda is pure bile - say why. You cannot dispute it if had any knowledge of what is going on.

We're waiting for them this time, they would be foolish to try again.

Mind saying that if it does kick off it's going to get very messey very quickly.

As I said, when our 1 aircraft carrier is bogged down fighting wars for Israel against Iran - will we really have the military and political will to stop them?

Yes.

btw, it is only recently that oil has been discovered in the Falklands. Back in 1982 there was no knowledge of oil there and it played no part in any decisions made at the time.

um no, it was well known long before 1982 that there was a strong possibility of oil in the south Atlantic, why do you think anyone was there in the first place.

Apart from winning the election and regaining popularity Maggie wanted to secure the oil rights.

Were you alive in 1982? do you have any idea what a complete abortion the Falklands operation was.

Look up 'The Atlantic Conveyor' and 'The Sheffield'

Bombing the runway with Vulcans, Sir Galahad in Bluff Cove, do some proper research, don't believe all the Sun reader jingoism.

I believe the Atlantic Conveyor was full of Chinooks that were supposed to carry soldiers across the Island, they were all lost so the soldiers had to go by foot.

If Argentina achieved any significant landing they would walk it now.

Why do we need an aircraft carrier, when the enemy can't put up a credible air threat from day 0 having dominance of the sky requires very few aircraft, which is exactly what we have stationed on the island, 4 of the very best aircraft in the world.

So the conclusion is that the peoples wishes were not particularly high up on our agenda and you believe that we handed over Hong Kong because we had signed an agreement.

You are so naive.

If Hong Kong had huge reserves of oil and was not right next to a super power do you really think we would have abided so compliantly with the 'lease'.

If Argentina had the military might of China do you think we would give a 4X about the wishes of the inbred s who live there.

I think they would have been repatriated long ago.

The UK is now known around the world as the school bully or rather the pathetic little squirt who hangs around with the school bully.

We are in the process of being found out.

Firstly lolslam62

Give up now. Just don't bother posting in this thread, I have never read such tripe!

If you are so fed up of your country, why don't you leave? I am sure the Argentines would love to have you. Please don't use the word "we" as quite clearly your anti British sentiment paints you as some pathetic mouth breathing knuckle dragger who is happy to use the freely handed out benefits while criticising everything.

The Americans were the opposite of supportive of the FW1

There were rumours they gave intelligence to the Argentinians. The French were certainly happy to sell them missiles.

The problem i have is the Type 45 is untested in battle, should a sea skimming missile hit that (out of total luck) then it's all but over imho, provided we can fend off what little they have in the way of fighters, using both our type 45 and Eurofighters / air defence then without air cover anything trying to enter the waters around the islands or land will bee a sitting duck.

Without serious help by another nation i simply can't see how they can take the island.

Most of the US's 10 fleets are 'untested' in battle but I wouldn't want to poke them. The Navy train for this day in, day out, I think they know exactly waht the Argies have, where it sits and what noise the system makes when there's something on it's way. We could argue of 'yes it is' 'no it isn't' all night, but my view is that a nation that's still recovering from economic collapse and dismal funding for it's armed services since the Junta collapsed would not be a match in war, we're in a much stronger position militarily, geographically, economically and internationally.

BUENOS AIRES

There was a load of bloody fairies in Buenos bloody Aires
With greasy hair and sweaty bums, they'd never heard of Boddington's
A different culture and a different race, - no chippies in the ******* place,
You can keep that poof Ardiles, we're going to have your Malvinas
Eh Up!

They got our backs up without a doubt, time to sort those Argies out
Costa Mendez lives in fear of real men who can hold their beer

Chorus
Eh! Eh! Eh! The lads are on their way,
With bayonets and tommy guns and bellies full of Boddington's
Eh Up!

Fray Bentos and cheap red wine is all they eat in the Argentine
But after a scrap with the English Navy, they'll ask for the recipe for chips 'n' gravy
