The Falklands thread

As far as I'm aware, any taxes will go directly to the Falkland's rather than the UK.
This. None of the tax revenue from oil or anything else for that matter will leave the island for UK shores.

Although it's expected that the Falkland islands will pay a significant sum to the UK treasury for protection against Argentine aggression. It wont be profitable for the UK though. The biggest benefit will be UK based company involvement in the oil exploration and extraction process.

Maybe enough to pay for a few Aircraft carriers plus aircraft to go on them, which would work out quite nice.

Might see if I can become a Citizen of the Falkland Isles, get in on the riches :)

What's to stop them paying the Americans for protection instead? Or France?

And couldn't they choose to do business with US companies instead? Being a BOT is not the same as being British is it? They are completely independent aren't they?

Then we can bill them for what we have done so far, and I bet that would be a pretty big bill. :)

The falkland islands already pay money to the uk for defence.

Generally tranquil, then every now and again there's a big bloody war, then peaceful again, then a big bloody war, then peace.............................

I bet it's alright if you don't mind being stuck pretty much in the middle of nowhere, I can imagine there is a great community there, possibly with a touch of in-breeding. If I ran a purely web-based business and they had decent internets I would be tempted.
