This I am sure is a software issue. My PC was fully stable on a 3.5GHz OC for months now. Prime tested and no issues whatever all temps are good maxing at 47C for the CPU.
Last week I did a windows 7 update and for the first time ever, I let it run automatically.
Since then on occasion and infrequently, the PC has frozen or gone to a black screen. On shutting down it will auto restart. I have now returned to default BIOS settings. I will also switch off the auto restart.
After the installation, I noticed that AVG 2011 had also stopped working and required a reinstall, it had lost its connection to its database files. I have since fully scanned all drives in the PC.
I am almost 100% positive this is not hardware. I have posted here to gain a wider readership and am asking if others have experienced the same issues after a recent update.
I will be investigating further over the weekend and uninstalling the most recent update, it will be the last time I unselectively update any software.
Java is also a potential culprit.
I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and several virtual machines.
