Can anyone tell me the fasted cards from:

2001.2002, 2003, 2004, 2005

not 2006 as its obviously the GTX, this is just something im curious about.

thanks

I can give you the fastest from the past few generations but as for years you'll need to look them up yourself. :)

Working backwards it would be the X1950XTX/X1900XTX, X850XT/X800XTPE, 9800XT/9700pro, Ti4600.

The above list is based on pure speed, not features so although the X8x00 series didn't support Shader Model 3 they were slightly faster than the comparable 6800series card. The list is from memory so could be slightly off as well but I'm pretty sure of most of it. :)

the X1950XTX/X1900XTX were not out in 2005! try the 7800GTX instead!

Rosy red spectacles you are wearing there, kudos for getting an early dig in ;)

Technically the 6800's won that gen as the 6800 Ultra Extreme beat the X850XT also from my personal experiance the 6800Ultra was faster than the X800XTPE (had both at launch) at almost everything but FarCry.

The 9700 Pro was an awesome card of gigantic proportions, upgraded from a Ti4600 to that after only a few months and it blew my mind in BF1942

Spot on, the GT's were the best bang per buck cards at the time, especially with most being overclockable to ultra levels

Still not really had a definitive list chaps! I'll do the layout if someone fills it in

2007 - Who knows? ATI?....
2006 - Nvidia 8800GTX
2005 -
2004 -
2003 -
2002 -
2001 -

2007 - Who knows? ATI?....
2006 - 768mb GeForce 8800GTX
2005 - 256mb GeForce 7800GTX

not 100% sure though but i reckon a very good guess

Though question, you might want to take a look at the tomshardwareguide graphics card tests. They go back a few years.

Got to agree with you on the 9700 pro front, that were a great card of its time. Fantastic cards to bench and game with at the time.

We talknig about single or dual cards as in CF / SLi?

To me before the 8800 series came, single card had to be X1950XTX but a set of 2 cards, 7900 512MB GTX's

i think AT had the 9500 in 2001 and before that i think geforce 1/2/3/4 was the best? im not sure

I think people are getting pretty confused about timings in this thread :)
Here's my take, ignoring factory clocked special editions and SLI/x-fire etc

2005: Nvidia Geforce 7800GTX 512meg
2004: Ati Radeon X850XT Platinum Edition*
2003: Ati Radeon 9800XT
2002: Ati Radeon 9700Pro
2001: Nvidia Geforce 3 Ti500
2000: Nvidia Geforce 2 Ultra
1999: Nvidia Geforce DDR*
1998: 3dfx Voodoo2 12meg (very impressive considering how early in the year it debuted)
1997: 3dfx Voodoo Graphics
1996: 3dfx Voodoo Graphics (!)

*questionable availability before year end.

I think I might have a custom made plinth for my 9700Pro when I replace it with a PCI-E card. :D :D

It's still hold up quite well in most games.

Yes but will it be worshipped on a shrine like mine?

Well since I said it was the best card of the generation (e.g. matching the X1900 series against the 7900 series etc) rather than of each year I could argue the case but I don't care enough to. :)

//edit -CsA-TAZ could you change your signature please so it complies with the FAQ rules, you are way over on lines used. Thanks. :)

try benchmarking the x850xt in rainbow six vegas, or splinter cell double agent. even a gf6200 will score infinitley higher than the x850xt.

so no way you can claim that round up of cards as being the fastest without some rock solid evidence taken from all round the world.

and your even forgetting the 7950gx2 which was out the same tome as x1900 cards were, and is significantly faster than the x1k series.
