Does anyone else feel this way when returning back to Windows fom Linux?

I'd say I spend about 50% of my day using Linux / Unix and the othe 50% using Windoze. At the moment my main Linux box is dead (infact it's vital parts are packed into a shoe box  so I'm using the Wind with XP installed on it and it's even XP home :o and I feels like I have about 0 control over my own system!

Normally I'm happily hacking away in Perl or Java making (pretty pointless) tools (I'm paticularly proud of my script that plays a random family guy episode if time is between 1AM and 3AM (post pub family guyage). But on Windows I just feel, well, a bit useless!

So now not only do I hate Windows but it's making me feel bad! Anyone else feel like that, or am I just sad!

No sure if it is the same, but when using windows I just get annoyed at everything. Pop ups and stuff from different programs are annoying. In fact it is just a lack of control.

whats stopping you formatting the Wind tonight and sticking a linux dsitro on?

EDIT: Im currenting testing opensuse 11.1 TC1 as we speak, its nice... :)... download it. I dare you :p

Debian > * the only reason I'm putting up with Windows is that I actually need something to test out my apps on that has Windows and I've lost the seriel code for my XP Pro disc

The other day I was working on my sister's XP machine and I was having to poke around and remove a lot of different files in a bunch of different directories. I was irritated that I couldn't just bash together a script to do it for me while I ate cake. Then it occurred to me that I could make a .bat.

It seems that many of the tools we like in Linux are available in some form or another in Windows (including Java and Perl). however the sensation to me is that Linux/Unix puts me in the driver's seat so I end up doing more things in a clever fashion.

It's just 20x more hassle though I think. It's the lack of basic commands like head, grep et al that gets to me too. And that in a command prompt if I want to cd in to "Program Files" I have to do cd Progra~1. I just end up fahing for ages with Windows and getting almost nothing done
