Just recently noticed the Air Rifles and Pistol thread, and thought Firearms/Shotguns deserved their own thread.

I took up shooting with my son a couple of years ago, starting with Shotgun Certificates to go Clay Shooting and then joining a club in order to get our Firearm Certificates.

We currently shoot Clays a couple of weekends every month, 22LR weekly at our club's indoor range, Pistol Calibres every second month at an outdoor range, and Fullbore the months in between at an outdoor 500yd Range.

Currently own the following (pictured top to bottom)...

Ruger Precision Rifle chambered in 308 Winchester fitted with a Wildcat Elite Moderator and Vortex Venom 5-25x56 Scope. I have a polished Bolt Shroud and replacement Bolt handle on the way for this.
Bettensoli 12G OU Shotgun. This was a cheapy that I bought second hand for £150. Going to replace this next month with an ATA Arms Supersport.
Lantac LA-SF15 chambered in 22LR. Fitted with a Lantac Dragon Muzzle Brake and Primary Arms 1-6x24 LVPO. Basically an AR15 that shoots 22. Semi Automatic, accurate, and a lotta fun.

I have space left on my FAC for the following when funds permit...

22 Rifle - A slot for a second 22LR rifle. I'm planning on getting a CZ457 MDT and fitting it with a high mag scope for competition shooting.
38/357 Rifle - Got a Marlin 1894 Dark on order for this, but they won't be available until the Spring at the earliest. Might stick a Red Dot on this.
303 Rifle - Planning on getting a Lee Enfield No.4.
22 Long Barrel Pistol - Planning on getting a Walther PPQ with the milled and drilled slide ready for a red dot.

Any other FAC/SGC Holders here? What you packing?

I recently gave up my SGC, after about 15 years. I was in to muzzle loaders though. Apparently the licence costs are going up considerably this year.

It's going up to £200 or something like that, to be honest that doesn't bother me although there are talks about a "per gun" tax, which I'm really hoping doesn't happen.

I'll take some pictures at some point and put them up on here.

Is that good or bad? If good, why, if bad why? You want a separate thread so get on with it.

Not sure why this isn't in the other GUNS N AMMO thread but curious all the same.
I wasn't aware there was another thread. Really no need for the attitude though is there?

I posted there and got attitude because I wasn't posting about air weapons. And now I've started a new thread and getting attitude about not posting in the other one.

Forget it. I'll delete this thread.

Nah I think it’s fair to have a new thread, section 1 firearms always seem to be the unwanted cousin of air rifles/shotguns/airsoft. Just a FYI though I reckon you should take photos with the serial number not present, the police could be funny about and it could be used to identify you.

Bad, unlike as depicted in Hollywood movies guns with moderators are still very very loud, just taking the edge off and not ninja devices. They are effectively PPE, reducing the muzzle report for fellow shooters on the range and the nuisance factor for those that live near shooting ranges or fields where vermin control is underway. They should be promoting their use not restricting it.

Exactly my thoughts. Stupid decision, as most government decisions regarding firearms are.

Had a significant reloading backlog that I needed to address.

In the space of 7 days I've made 343 x .44 magnum and 67 x 8mm Mauser.

I don't think that's bad going, considering I'm doing it around work and all the other day to day stuff.

8mm Mauser below:

Yeah it really does/can reduce the amount you get the police called on you even in rural areas with low population density/mostly people aware of what goes on in this kind of area.

Yea the moderator thing is madness, although they will grant them if you ask, it's literally just a bloody tick box exercise that no one cares about until some mistake happens and you end up getting stitched up over it.

To be fair my tippman .22lr is pretty quiet if using subsonic ammo with a moderator.

I used to own for several years a

Lanber field dulux - over and under 12 bore on a SGC - For walked up shooting (rabbits, pidgeon shooting / pidgeon hide decoying) and clay shooting, - i loved this gun

CZ American 452 - .17 HMR rimfire with 5 shot mag. on a firearms cert - With SAK Mod, harris bipod and a simmonds whitetail classic scope (for rabbit shooting / lamping and field target shooting) - Really nice gun to shoot, very smooth and powerful round.

Unfortunatly i ended up giving up my FAC, i kept my SGC for a while after this (and then gave that up)

I had started shooting quite young (air rifles as a kid) and SGC when I was about 18 years old, then i sold up after 2 years, and bought again when i was about 23 years old and i had to give it up again about 4 years later

Primarily as i was moving , and i didnt want to take it with me in to a shared house i ended up moving in to whilst i was waiting to purchase a house.

Not got into reloading yet, but it's on the radar. Is it significantly cheaper than factory ammo? or is it more about having more control?
