Here somewhere!!!
Hi all

As most will know, it's been very foggy the past couple of days, and I am just in shock at how many drivers drive round with no lights on what so ever:mad::mad: Yesterday I seen a near miss between two cars, and then today a HGV just managed to break and miss a school bus with no lights on in the fog. What should or could be done about this type of thing??? I think it should come under: Driving without due care and attention.

Those who choose to drive without I imagine would create an issue for themselves if they crash without lights in the fog(insurance wouldn't be happy) Not to mention its silly and surely would be the first thing you would think of in the Fog

Well, there's the other way around too, people who leave their rear fog lights on all the time, even in traffic, so they can burn your retina.

Afaik it's not illegal to not use them but could cause issues with your insurance should you have an accident.

I think it is illegal not to use headlights if visibility is poor (<100m). There's no requirement to use fog lights, which are largely useless unless it's especially foggy, however there is a requirement to turn off fog lights when visibility improves (how I wish they'd enforce this with extreme prejudice). Over to the Motors crowd to show how I'm wrong :)

Stupid people, no lights on or fog lights when not needed! maybe you should have put this in motors.

My village this morning which has normally quiet country lanes where most of the time it's quite hard for just 2 cars to pass and a nice one in 10 hill was turned into a nightmare this morning. An accident on busy the main road meant everything came through the village from around 7-30am until around 2pm, it was Russian roulette in the fog getting out of the village this morning.

Absolutely, on my way home last night on the M55, it was slightly misty but visibility was easily 1/2 a mile, if not more, and 95% of cars had them on.

Dip beams at least, although theres plenty with no lights at all.

Other thing grinds my gears is folk who dont pull in to let an ambulance pass, or who then use the opportunity once it has passed to jump a few spots in the queue. You'd be damn sure that wouldn't happen to the police.

The standard of driving in this country is ridiculous.

When I did my driving lessons in Holland, the first thing you learn is how to drive in adverse weather conditions and using what equipment you have available to you. I got tested on it too.

My wife did her drivers here and she said that driving in crap weather didn't even come up

Yeah I get the point about peeps using them when there is no need to, but peeps who drive with no lights on at all like in the above quote should be shot!

First headlights next monsters..

On a more serious note I blame the gov for not making a bigger thing of bad weather driving in the tests etc.

It still amazes me there are a lot of modern cars that don't have fog lights that turn off with the ignition, so the fogs aren't on the next time you drive unless you press the button again.
bugs me, days after when cars are still driving around with the fogs on when its not foggy

Pretty sure there will be a notification/warning light on the dash they would notice.

Whenever it's foggy I put my fog lights on, because honestly - if you're not gonna use them when its foggy, when will you?

I do see a lot of people chancing it without lights tho. Proper annoying as depending on the angle you don't even see them at a junction or whatever.

Take the lights away from the driver, you get automatic wipers etc these days, so maybe new cars should be fitted with some type of sensor system that turns the lights on/off when they need to be, both normal and fog. it's just a thought.
