The Fountain Pen Thread

Normally I don't, but I don't have a filler for the Lamys. I should probably order one because this is untenable
I came back into my office on Monday and the Safari with a converter was still flowing nicely, it hadn't been touched for a fortnight.

That's impressive. Mine dries out in minutes. I've stopped using it actually. I have a lovely Cross pen that I was using daily, but I dropped it on the nib and that buckled it. They sent me a brand new one, but it doesn't write very nicely (I actually need to send that back).

My uncle has a massive fountain pen collection and he gave me a couple (I'm going to inherit it anyway), so I'm now using a lovely old Sheaffer (similar to this one).

Yes.

The one I posted above in post #114 has already gone up by £40 since I bought mine. It's stupidly expensive for what is 'just' a pen. But... And I know this is going to sound utterly bonkers: I sort of feel that it's worth it. Whenever I hold it and use it, it puts a smile on my face. It's a big pen, it feels comfortable and smooth in my hand and it writes phenomenally. There's no hesitation, no problems starting. To use Apple parlance, "it just works".

I'd been pondering one for a couple of years and finally bought it with some money I got from an insurance claim. I expected to feel buyers remorse after getting it but it's the opposite, I'm really glad I did.
Likewise, I bought a restored 146 oblique broad. Fully expected buyer's remorse but it genuinely makes note taking at work a joy.

So much so I've just purchased a 145 as another daily driver. Cartridge converter so much less of a faff to clean than a piston filler.
