The future of destruction in video games?

it's my opinion the video games shouldn't be completely destructable (or at least video games designed to follow a specific story through a single specific area) in GTA games for example the city really would be rubble before you even got half way through the city, and with no coding in place to ensure structures were rebuilt over time this would fall flat on it's face.

in FPS i can see more viability but even in BF:BC in the 20 minute games they were having problems with the entire battlefield being smoking rubble long before the game was over, creating a very rubbish experience.

just my 2p

That looks awesome, although it's gonna be a long time before we get full 100% destructible enviroments in video games. Battlefield: Modern Combat looks awesome though for the 360 as it is going to have 90% of it's enviroment destrutible but when you blow up buildings and stuff the building frames are left standing.

bad company you mean, and i made a comment on how it's not all it's cracked up to be

I dont think destructible environments should be in fps's unless they changed the game mode to suit it. Imagine shipment on call of duty 4 that would be utterly stupid, there needs to be structure for the game to be fair and fun.

Bet its good fun on single player but that is on a linear path where players are guided whereas multi player its completely random.

But most other games would be mint, imagine pgr with road barriers crumpling as well as the cars, now that would be awsome.
