The future of lenses?

I was watching the first episodes of my Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex boxset last night and in episode 1 I saw that. I thought it was hilarious that they would write the lens info on an ocular implant but it did make me think. We have lenses the size of an eye in phones. How long till we do have implants like that available. How long till someone is shopping for an L glass eye?

Think it'll be a long time until it is possible but I would like IS fitted to mine , it would be so handy walking back from the Pub
